Despite being a leader of an impoverished African country where nearly 70% of the population lives on less than $2 a day, President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who has been in power for 36 years, paid Nicki Minaj $2m to perform at his Xmas party.
Minaj performed in Luanda, Angola last night despite calls from human rights activists and critics to cancel her concert for the malnourished country. She arrived the country in a private jet.
Nicki Minaj followed the footsteps of Mariah Carey, who was paid $1m in 2013 to perform in front of President dos Santos, who has been accused of overseeing corruption, misrule and intimidation in the country that suffers endemic poverty, despite being Africa’s 2nd-largest oil producer.
